Last night, the San José Police Department (SJPD) reported a fatal disturbance that ended in the city's 12th homicide of the year. The incident occurred in a residence on the 1300 block of Alvernaz Drive, according to the SJPD.
San José officers responded to a stabbing call at approximately 10:00 PM and, upon arrival, discovered two adult male victims with stab wounds, with the assailant still inside the residence. The police response was swift. The suspect was apprehended without further complications, a detail not lost on residents who are increasingly unnerved by the rising tide of violent crime.
Tragically, one victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene, despite the immediate emergency aid provided by officers, while the second victim was found to have non-life-threatening injuries, according to an official report by the SJPD.
The suspect at the heart of the violence, 44-year-old Buu Trinh, a San José resident, is now facing murder charges after being booked into Santa Clara County Main Jail, this acceleration from domestic dispute to homicide marks a shocking transition that the neighborhood is still trying to grapple with and understand the full implications of such an act.
The SJPD Homicide Unit has investigated to piece together the precise motive and the circumstances that led to this fatal altercation. The assailant and the victims were known to each other and had been involved in a verbal disagreement before the stabbing.
For those in the San José community who might have further information on the events that transpired, Detective Sergeant Van Den Broeck and Detective Estantino are leading the inquiries, and they can be reached via email at [email protected] or [email protected] or by calling 408-277-5283.
