A teenager is recovering after being shot in what police describe as a botched drive-by shooting in Monroe earlier this week. According to a statement from the Monroe Police Department, officers were called to the 600-block of Skywatch Lane just after 11 p.m. yesterday, where they found evidence of a drive-by shooting.
The police report indicates that the assailants exited their vehicle and fired shots into two residences. Fortunately, none of the inhabitants of these homes were injured. Roughly 13 minutes later, at 11:39 p.m., authorities were alerted to a 16-year-old with a life-threatening gunshot wound at Atrium Union, prompting an airlift to a Charlotte area hospital for urgent treatment. The victim is now reportedly in stable condition.
In the course of their investigation, detectives believe that the teenager was unintentionally shot by an accomplice during the initial Skywatch Lane incident.
