Texas has clinched its 12th Gold Shovel Award in recognition of its remarkable performance in job creation and capital investment throughout 2024. This accolade, bestowed by Area Development magazine, marks a continuation of the state's two-decade streak of either Gold or Silver Shovel awards, as reported by the Office of the Texas Governor.

In a statement, Governor Greg Abbott expressed pride in the state's achievement, saying, "Texas again wins gold for attracting job-creating business investments thanks to having the best business climate and fastest-growing skilled workforce in America," as stated by the Office of the Texas Governor. Over the course of last year, Texas has managed to secure more than $10.6 billion in investment projects that have promised to create upwards of 11,000 jobs. Abbott also credited local and regional partners for their role in securing this prosperity.

Area Development acknowledged several significant contributors to this achievement, including Delta Electronics, Inc., with a $452 million investment in Plano and QYK Brands' $400 million capital infusion in The Woodlands. Both investments represent the manufacturing sector of the year's most notable expansions, expected to introduce 2,500 jobs to the state, according to the Office of the Texas Governor.

Not all the recognized projects were in manufacturing. The online retail giant Amazon has made a commitment to invest $200 million in Cleburne, which is projected to create another 1,000 jobs. This, along with the investments from other companies like ECL, FREYR Battery (now T1 Energy), Crystal Window & Door Systems, and the fast-food chain Raising Cane’s, demonstrates a diversified growth strategy across the Lone Star State. "Innovative industry leaders invest with certainty in Texas because Texas moves at the speed of business," Abbott stated, signaling confidence in the state's continuing trajectory toward economic expansion, as detailed by the Office of the Texas Governor.

The annual Shovel Awards serve to highlight efforts and successes in state-level economic development, with a focus on job creation and industrial diversification. Texas's recognition encompasses not just the sheer volume of jobs expected but also reflects the variety of industries, from manufacturing to technology, that are choosing to expand or set up shop within the state.
