In observance of Juneteenth, several city facilities in Tulsa will shut their doors on Thursday. According to an announcement from the City of Tulsa, City Hall, the Municipal Court, and other administrative buildings will be closed on June 19. These closures are meant to honor the day that commemorates the end of slavery in the United States.
Despite the closures, it's business as usual for Tulsa's public safety and critical mission operations. Residents dealing with water or sewer issues won't be left high and dry; emergency services can be reached at 24-hour hotlines: water – (918) 596-9488, and sewer – (918) 586-6999. The city ensures that refuse and recycling collection will follow the regular Thursday schedule, the City of Tulsa announced.
For those keeping tabs on their yard clippings and bulkier items, note that Thursday's yard waste and bulky waste services have shifted to Friday, June 20. As for the Tulsa mulch site at 2100 N. 145th East Ave., it will take a day off on Juneteenth; and for good measure, it's also taking a breather on Sunday, June 22. This was reported by the City of Tulsa's recent press release.
Animal lovers are in luck because the City of Tulsa Animal Services on N. Erie Ave will maintain open doors on Thursday. While the Oxley trails invite nature enthusiasts to roam freely, its visitors center will close for the day. Tulsa Parks recreation centers will take a break on Juneteenth, but opportunity for leisure still abounds with the Mohawk Park and Page Belcher golf courses rolling out their greens, and the Tulsa Zoo, too, welcoming guests. In the realm of public transportation, MetroLink Tulsa will keep the wheels turning with its regular bus services, the City of Tulsa disclosed in its statement.
