During a Pride event celebrated by the Redwood City community on Wednesday, what was supposed to be an occasion of unity and acceptance was marred by an act of hatred. Two juveniles were arrested following an attack at Courthouse Square, as reported by the Redwood City Police Department in a press release. Witnesses say that at approximately 5:55 PM, individuals hurled suspected fireworks into the crowd while directing homophobic slurs at the attendees, resulting in minor injuries to one of the two adult victims present.

Police responded to the scene after the suspects had already fled, but a break in the case came when video surveillance footage, capturing a portion of the attack, aided in identifying the perpetrators; it was on this evidence that one 13-year-old suspect was apprehended later that day and then another the following evening, with both of them being turned over to the San Mateo County Youth Services Center.

The Redwood City Police Department has stated the investigation is ongoing, and they are urging anyone who might have further information to step forward and contact them at (650) 780-7100.
