In a coordinated effort between the Milford Police Department and the Massachusetts State Police Violent Fugitive Apprehension Section (VFAS). Two men were arrested yesterday in Milford on a variety of charges, including an armed robbery charge for 20-year-old Dontay Heywood, who hails from Woonsocket, RI, as reported in a social media post from the Milford Police Department.
Police were tipped off that Heywood, a fugitive wanted for first-degree robbery and employing a firearm in a violent crime, could be located in the South Main St. area of Milford leading to the dispatch of various police units around 2:00 p.m. to execute the arrest warrant, however, also present was Izaiah Desjarlais Blauth, 22, also of Woonsocket, RI, who was apprehended on unrelated felony warrant charges.
During a subsequent search at approximately 2:49 p.m., officers uncovered a Black HK 6mm BB Gun and an abundance of rifle ammunition—totaling 436 rounds; these discoveries further complicated the already serious situation as it raised concerns about the intent behind possessing such a large quantity of ammunition.
Milford Chief of Police Robert Tusino, reflecting on the day's events and the partnership among law enforcement agencies, explained in the Facebook post, "Our continued relationships with agencies such as the State Police and their VFAS unit are invaluable in investigating crimes and capturing violent criminals," and acknowledging the potential risks added "When dealing with someone wanted for a violent crime that has a large quantity of rifle rounds in their possession, the question becomes what was he planning next? I’m grateful for the safety of all parties involved and commend all the law enforcement personnel involved," according to Milford Police Department.
Both Heywood and Blauth are currently detained without bail at the Worcester House of Corrections pending their arraignment, where Heywood is expected to face charges for being a fugitive from justice based on a court warrant for armed robbery and possession of ammunition without an FID card, while Blauth will confront charges related to larceny from a building and receiving a stolen motor vehicle.
