The recent operation by the U.S. Coast Guard resulted in the interdiction of a small sailboat carrying 16 individuals, all claiming to be of Mexican nationality, off the coast of Point Loma. As reported by the U.S. Coast Guard's official website, the incident occurred approximately 54 miles southwest of Point Loma, California.
According to a statement released by the Coast Guard, a C-130 aircraft from Air Station Sacramento played a critical role in this operation. It guided the Coast Guard Cutter Petrel towards the 25-foot sailing vessel. Upon interception by the cutter, which launched a boarding team, 16 migrants were found onboard. This swift interdiction was carried out without the use of force, showcasing the professionalism and precision the Coast Guard brings to such sensitive operations.
The individuals apprehended at sea have been transferred into the custody of a U.S. Border Patrol at Ballast Point on a Saturday afternoon. The Coast Guard has not provided specific details on the condition of the migrants or the intended destination of the vessel.
