A San Mateo storage unit burglary led to the arrest of a Union City man, Aaron Hassan, after multiple units were hit and items, including high-value tools, electronics, rare memorabilia, collectibles, and firearms, were reported stolen, the San Mateo Police Department announced.
Through a thorough investigation sparked by community reports, police were able to track down a vehicle connected to the crime, this lead, combined with other evidence, pointed to 44-year-old Hassan as the suspect behind the burglaries that have been taking place over the past several weeks; the police used license plate information obtained by a Community Service Officer (CSO) to make the connection, according to the San Mateo Police Department.
A subsequent search of Hassan's vehicle and residence by the Criminal Investigations Bureau (CIB) and Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) unearthed a hoard of stolen goods, including two firearms, and a significant amount of narcotics. Hassan has now been slapped with numerous charges ranging from possession of a firearm by a felon to possession of controlled substances, alongside four counts of 2nd-degree burglary, detailed in the arrest report provided by the police department.
While Hassan is currently in custody at the San Mateo County Jail, the investigation remains ongoing with efforts underway to reunite the stolen goods with their rightful owners and the police encourage the public to document their valuables properly, as this greatly assists in recovery and return, "This is a good time to remind you, if you own anything of value, please make it a point to keep serial numbers, descriptions/photos, values and the like" the San Mateo Police Department suggests.
