Two industrious students from the University of Cincinnati are set to make their mark across the pond as they embark on a prestigious culinary internship in England. Natalie Rubi and Curtis Schriner have secured spots in the 2025 edition of the 513 Culinary Group (Sodexo) Global Internship program. They will be spending four weeks at Northumbria University in Newcastle Upon Tyne, gaining invaluable international work experience to sharpen their business acuity and leadership prowess.
While on this transatlantic journey, according to the University of Cincinnati's official news release, the duo will be tasked to collaboratively work on a market research project. They are set to truly immerse and lose themselves in developing a fresh cafe concept at Trinity Square, a key student living space. But it’s not just all work and no play; Rubi and Schriner will also get to quickly traverse through multiple site visits, including a peak behind the curtain of Sodexo’s operations in London and a culturally enriching field trip to St. James' Park, the storied grounds of Newcastle United Football Club.
The culinary group has teamed up with some key university figures to shape an experience that’s both educational and practical. The program is a collaborative effort involving Anne Fugard, director of the study abroad program, and Michael Nuttle, co-op director at the Lindner College of Business to meet academic and co-operative requirements. This ensures that what students like Rubi and Schriner learn can be directly applied to their studies and future professional endeavours.
Ending on a high note, the pair will have the chance to truly showcase their growth from this experience by delivering their strategic recommendations to a formal audience. They'll impart their insights on brand development, marketing strategies, and operational planning at the program's conclusion. This final presentation is more than just a requirement; it symbolizes the culmination of an intensive learning experience designed to mold students into global thinkers and problem-solvers.
The University of Cincinnati's commitment to offer life-changing experiences that merge classroom theory with the real world stands tall with the 513 Culinary Group Global Internship. Programs like these bring a world of opportunities to students' doorsteps, helping them to understand their field from an international perspective and setting them on paths to potentially change the very fabric of the industries they are about to enter.
