Major disruptions are on the horizon for South Academy Boulevard starting the week of June 15, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation. In a bid to enhance this vital artery, the Military Access, Mobility & Safety Improvement Program (MAMSIP) is gearing up for a round of overnight roadwork that may cause some late-night travel headaches, but promises smoother journeys once it's all set in new pavement. For those hitting the road during these times, detours will be signposted, as CDOT urges motorists to be mindful of the changes and plan their trips accordingly.
Specifically, southbound South Academy Boulevard will be off-limits between Milton Proby Parkway and US Highway 85/87 on June 15 and 16 from 6 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. detours will reroute traffic west on Drennan Road, north on Astrozon Boulevard, and east onto Hancock Expressway, after that, it's down Main Street and back to US 85/87 to reconnect with South Academy, as outlined by CDOT. More closures between this same stretch and Interstate 25 are set for June 17 through 19 (and possibly longer, weather permitting), with meticulously plotted detour routes designed to shepherd drivers back to their regular routes with as little disruption as possible.
The MAMSIP project is multi-faceted and spans much further than night-time closures. During daylight hours, Bradley Road under South Academy Boulevard will see alternating lane reductions on June 19 to make way for new lighting, so prepare to be patient or find alternative routes. Long-term projects in play through July and August include lane shifts and reductions at various points along South Academy Boulevard for bridge rehab, road widening, and noise barrier construction, all in the name of progress and improved traffic flow.
