Attention Tacoma residents: Street closures will begin as the city carries out maintenance under the Residential Street Restoration Program, affecting daily commutes temporarily. Starting June 9, multiple road sections will be intermittently closed through July 18 to complete this work. The city’s official announcement notes that weather conditions may impact the schedule.
The restoration work begins on South 11th Street, between South Cedar Street and South Alder Street, from June 9 to 13. The closures are carefully scheduled over several days. Announced today, these roadwork activities reflect the city’s efforts to maintain its streets, though they are expected to temporarily impact traffic in the affected areas.
Following that, North 12th Street will undergo similar work between North Cedar Street and North Alder Street from June 16 to 20. The city is focusing on one area at a time to limit disruptions, though surrounding neighborhoods will still be affected. After a short break, maintenance will move to North Cedar Street, between North 26th Street and North 27th Street, scheduled for June 23 to 27.
The closures will pause for Independence Day before resuming on North 28th Street, between North Alder Street and North Junett Street, from June 30 to July 4. Residents who frequently use these routes may need to find alternative ways to travel, as the work focuses on repair and restoration. Following this, North 29th Street will undergo similar maintenance between North Alder Street and North Junett Street from July 7 to 11.
The schedule concludes with the closure of North Cedar Street between North 32nd Street and North 33rd Street from July 14 to 18, marking the final phase of the restoration project. Community members seeking more information about the Residential Street Restoration Program can contact Jeff Maki at (253) 591-5495, according to the city’s communications.
