
A Wake County woman is facing charges of insurance fraud and obtaining property by false pretense, North Carolina Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey announced, the allegations involve her receiving nearly $19,000 from USAA Insurance by providing false statements for services never rendered, according to the NC Department of Insurance.
Tracy Lee Davie, 56, of Wake Forest, was arrested on June 3 after an investigation by the Department of Insurance’s Criminal Investigations Division found she had allegedly submitted fabricated statements to USAA Insurance in a homeowners’ insurance claim, the claim dated back to October 21, 2024, resulting in her illicitly collecting $18,752.25, Causey's office claims she was subsequently given an $8,000 secured bond following her arrest.
Insurance fraud is a costly crime that affects every North Carolinian by inflating insurance premiums, as pointed out by Commissioner Causey, who said, "Insurance fraud is not a victimless crime." He urges citizens to report any suspicious activities to help fight against these fraudulent practices, as per the NC Department of Insurance.
