Washington County just named its new chief financial officer, John Styer, after a comprehensive national search. County Administrator Tanya Ange confirmed the appointment, which follows Styer's tenure as interim CFO since last November. Styer's promotion came after a notable stint at the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, where he led the Business Administration team for five years before stepping into the interim role, according to Washington County.

Ange praised Styer for his commitment to the Finance Department and dedication to the county's fiscal health. "In his time as interim chief financial officer, John has focused on building a stronger finance team, leading the FY 2025-26 budget development process and advancing our enterprise resource planning implementation," Ange said, noting his alignment with key values like transparency and fiscal stewardship. Styer's move into the permanent CFO role is seen as a continuation of the work he's already been doing. Ange expressed confidence in his capabilities to guide the county's financial future, per Washington County.

Before joining Washington County, Styer had a distinguished 30-year career in the U.S. Army, retiring as a colonel. Throughout his service, he undertook various roles from commanding an attack helicopter company in Korea to senior finance positions in institutions like NATO and the U.S. Army's European Command. In his later roles, he oversaw substantial budgets and financial initiatives, an experience that now translates to his current responsibilities in Washington County.
