Waukesha County officials have announced a major construction effort set to rehabilitate the CTH EF (Hartling Road) bridge over the Bark River. The bridge, found roughly half a mile east of CTH E in the Town of Merton, will undergo a series of repairs and improvements, including a bridge deck overlay, concrete surface repair, approach paving, and guardrail replacement. The project, expected to kick off on Monday, July 7, is set for completion by mid-August of the same year.
According to a notice from the Waukesha County Gov. website, the construction phase will necessitate the closure of CTH EF near the bridge to traffic. As a result, Franchar Drive will be closed at the intersection with CTH EF, running along the Bark River's edge. Motorists are advised to take alternative routes, following a detour north utilizing CTH E and CTH VV to navigate around the closure.
Additionally, for those who frequent the scenic Ice Age Trail, which snakes alongside the Bark River near the bridge construction, there will be a temporary closure. The rehabilitation work will not only improve the bridge but also ensure the safety of trail users during the construction period. Trail enthusiasts can find a detour laid out on Dorn Road between Richter Road and Tamron Drive, ensuring access to this well-loved outdoor avenue remains available.
The project is being managed by the Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT). Enhancing the structural integrity and safety of the bridge, this work is crucial for the many travelers and local residents who depend on this infrastructure daily. For those planning their commutes or outdoor activities in the area, considering these temporary changes and allowing extra travel time would be prudent. As stated on the Waukesha County website, detours will be clearly marked to assist in directing traffic flow during this time of renewal.
