The Waukesha Police Department is currently looking into an overnight theft of nearly two dozen catalytic converters from buses at a local school bus company, First Student Inc., as reported by WISN. Early this morning, the absence of these crucial components was noted, signaling delays or cancellations across several school bus routes. This unexpected discovery came just as the buses were preparing for their daily operations.
With the incidents unfolding, families of students who typically rely on the bus service were met by complications. The school officials and First Student Inc. are scrambling to coordinate alternative transport and keep families informed, though found with the theft, there are certain to be gaps in service. The Waukesha police, as FOX6 News shared, are investing "a significant amount of investigative resources" into catching the perpetrators behind this act that significantly ripples through the everyday lives of students and their families.
First Student Inc.'s spokesman conveyed that they noticed the missing catalytic converters as their team arrived earlier this morning, as sourced by CBS58. They informed the police and the school district, and are presently working on bringing in additional buses from other First Student locations to minimize disruptions. The hope is to resume full bus service by the afternoon.
The police, upon reviewing surveillance footage, are calling for any tips from the public that might lead to resolutions. According to WISN, no arrests have been made thus far.
