A chaotic scene unfolded yesterday as Waxhaw Police Department responded to multiple 911 calls about shots being fired from a vehicle. According to a social media post by the department, one offender, Jorge Diaz, was arrested and another is wanted after they were reportedly shooting guns within city limits on Old Waxhaw Monroe Rd.

The incident escalated when Diaz, the driver of the vehicle, failed to stop for the pursuing officers. "After a few minutes of having blue lights and sirens in his rear view mirror," the Waxhaw Police Department post stated, Diaz opted to flee on foot into the woods. A joint effort by multiple agencies, including a drone and K-9 deployment, resulted in the eventual capture of Diaz. Meanwhile, the passenger of the vehicle decided to remain at the scene and avoided a potentially unpleasant encounter with the K-9 unit.

In an operation commended by the local authorities, the Union County Sheriff's Office, along with police departments from Monroe, NC and Wingate, assisted in the apprehension. The collaborative endeavor only saw one injury, which the police casually noted was when UCSO K-9 Homer took "a bite out of crime" during Diaz's arrest.

The Waxhaw Police Department has expressed its gratitude towards the assisting agencies for their support during the incident. While the second offender remains at large with warrants issued for their arrest, Diaz faces charges for his actions during the dangerous occurrence. The department has not publicly disclosed the nature of the charges at this time.
