In an effort to smooth the commute for future travels, contractors for the N.C. Department of Transportation will undertake milling work and apply a latex-modified concrete overlay to the bridge structure.
Starting from today at 10 p.m. and extending through the early morning hours of Monday at 5 a.m., weather permitting, drivers can expect lane closures on Glenwood Avenue. Announced by the N.C. Department of Transportation, both the ramp leading from Glenwood Avenue to I-440 West and the ramp connecting I-440 West to Glenwood Avenue will be closed, compelling drivers to seek alternate routes.
For those aiming to access westbound I-440 from Glenwood Avenue West, the detour will route them to continue on Glenwood Avenue, then execute a U-turn at the intersection with Blue Ridge Road before making their way to the interstate. Meanwhile, traffic usually on I-440 West will have to detour via Lake Boone Trail to circle back to Glenwood Avenue on the eastbound lanes of I-440.
