Peoria's transportation landscape is gearing up for a significant change as WeRIDE Microtransit is set to broaden its service area from July 1, addressing the need for enhanced connectivity within several neighborhoods. The expansion aims to make travel across central Peoria neighborhoods more accessible to various community spaces such as shopping centers, businesses, and recreational facilities. With more stops being added, most residents will find pick-ups no more than a 10-minute walk from their doors, as reported in a recent announcement.
The service is designed to quickly meet the needs of residents with stops conveniently located near community landmarks. WeRIDE emphasizes both efficiency and accessibility, ensuring that people can easily move around without necessarily having a personal vehicle. The microtransit program operates with a fleet of ADA-friendly vehicles capable of seating up to eight passengers and includes bike racks for those looking to combine their journey with cycling. During the pilot phase, services were limited in scope, but with the upcoming expansion, Peoria residents can soon expect broader availability. Children’s safety is also considered with requirements for child seats and boosters detailed on the company’s website.
According to WeRIDE's announcement, traveling with WeRIDE won’t break the bank. Adult fares are priced at $2, while discounted rides are available for seniors, veterans, students, and disabled individuals at $1 per trip. In keeping with family-friendly policies, children aged five and under can hitch a free ride when accompanied by a fare-paying adult. Payments can be conveniently done via the WeRIDE app or handed to the driver in exact cash, as making change isn’t an option.
Finding out more about the service or the exact Peoria Service Zone is straightforward. Those interested can simply visit WeRIDE’s website or call their customer service number. Additionally, residents can download the WeRIDE app readily available on both the Apple App Store and Google Play Store to begin scheduling rides. As public transport gets a boost in Peoria, community members can now look forward to a more connected, mobile, and potentially greener urban living experience.
