
A 68-year-old man became ill and could not continue down the Diamond Head Crater Trail on Tuesday. The Honolulu Fire Department received a 911 call at 9:20 a.m. and arrived at the scene by 9:25 a.m. Seventeen personnel from six units responded to assist, according to the Honolulu Fire Department.
The Honolulu Fire Department reached the hiker at 9:43 a.m. after hiking up the trail. They gave basic medical help and prepared the hiker for air rescue. A second unit arrived to set up the landing zone. Due to the hiker’s condition, an aerial extraction was needed. The hiker was airlifted and handed over to Emergency Medical Services at 10:03 a.m. for further treatment.
The Honolulu Fire Department reported that all personnel were accounted for and uninjured after a recent rescue on an Oahu hiking trail. The incident shows the potential risks of hiking in Hawaii and the role of emergency responders in these situations.
