Akron authorities have successfully apprehended 18-year-old Jaiden Palmer, who is accused of shooting an Uber driver six times, as reported by WKYC. The U.S. Marshals' Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force (NOVFTF) made the arrest in the 1900 block of Shaw Avenue. Palmer is currently facing charges of felonious assault and aggravated robbery and is detained at the Summit County Jail.

The incident, which nearly claimed the life of the 39-year-old driver, occurred on the evening of July 17 on Stanford Avenue. The victim, while in the process of her Uber duties, picked up two passengers shortly before 9:30 p.m., one of whom was suspected to be Palmer. During the ride, facing multiple gunshot wounds, the driver was transported to the hospital, where she was stabilized, according to information obtained by CWColumbus.

Investigators were originally uncertain of the motives behind the attack, with Akron Police Lt. Michael Murphy remarking, "It's concerning for us. Our top priority is to make an arrest in this case," as he told WKYC. There was a lack of clarity on whether the incident was an attempted robbery or stemmed from a different motive.

Moreover, detectives later ascertained that the second individual initially believed to be involved was not in the car at the time of the attack. Lt. Murphy conveyed to News 5 Cleveland their efforts to uncover the reason behind the shooting, stating, "We're not sure why they shot her. It doesn't appear to be a robbery attempt, so it's very concerning for us, and this is obviously a priority of ours." He explained that the passengers jumped out of the car and ran off after the shooting.

Akron Police continue to seek information from the public regarding the case. Tips can be provided through Summit County Crimestoppers or by texting Tips411 through the Akron PD app. Lieutenant Murphy emphasized community safety and justice for the victim, concluding, "Our prayers go out to the victim. We can't imagine the trauma associated with dealing with something like this. We're here to support her and see that she gets justice through this process," in a statement acquired by WKYC.
