Arizona is setting a new standard in voter accessibility with its innovative Text2Cure system, designed to quickly and securely fix early ballot signature issues. The Arizona Secretary of State, Adrian Fontes, explained to the Arizona Secretary of State's Office just how common these signature discrepancies can be, especially as voters' signatures evolve due to aging or health-related changes. "It happens all the time," Fontes said. "As we get older, our signature changes and maybe the signature doesn’t exactly match the signature on record anymore. Or perhaps someone has an injury or illness that affects their signature. Those folks still have time to make sure their vote counts!"

In practical terms, the system allows voters to easily submit the necessary information to verify their signatures via SMS. For now, the eyes of the public will rest upon its use in the upcoming Special Primary Election for Congressional District 7, where the deadline to correct signature issues is imminent, 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 20. Voters will have to move quickly to ensure their votes are recognized in time.

The Text2Cure program offers two pathways to engage in the curing process. Voters can simply text "ARIZONA" to 2VOTE (28683) and receive a secure link to the Text2Cure website. Standard text rates may apply, and those behind the program assure that personal information is safe and will not be shared or sold. Alternatively, voters can choose to directly contact their County Recorder's Office, taking the opportunity to call, email, or visit in person to get the ball rolling.

Knowing the importance of every vote, county election officials aren't sitting by idly. They will proactively reach out to early voters highlighted for signature verification. "If you get a message from the county that your signature verification needs to be validated, you can use the Text2Cure system to securely get that information to the county and make sure your vote counts," Fontes emphasized. This new system not only aids in securing the integrity of the election process, but it also embodies the spirit of inclusivity—that every vote matters, every voice is heard.
