As the mercury rises, Arlington Parks & Recreation is dishing out a series of summer events to keep the community cool and entertained through July. From fireworks to splash pads, there's something for everyone in the lineup.
For those north of 50, "Stars & Scoops" is happening tomorrow at the ACTIV Post Oak Hall, where seniors can indulge in an ice cream social between 1-2 PM. This Independence Day-themed gathering is an affordable delight at only $2 per person. A night to remember is promised on the same day, as downtown Arlington gears up for "Light Up Arlington." From 6 p.m. to 10:30 p.m., the event dazzles with live music, vendors, and a fireworks display set to begin at 9:50 p.m. According to Arlington Parks & Recreation, it's a free event suitable for families looking to celebrate the Fourth of July weekend.
For the kiddos, "Splash Tales" offers a whimsical escape at the California Lane Park splash pad on July 11 from 10-11 AM. This free event features interactive stories and water-themed crafts, making for an ideal summer morning. Be ready to register for this splashing fun, as the event is intended for kids to not only listen but also immerse themselves in aquatic adventures.
On the calmer side of things, "Sensory Swim" offers a safe and supervised swimming environment for children with special needs on July 26 from 9-11 AM. Registration is required, with a cap of 40 attendees and a modest fee of $3 per person. Later that day, the "Baha Bark Fest" honours the 25-year-old hit "Who Let the Dogs Out" with an afternoon of activities dedicated to man's best friend. Running from 12-3 PM at the East Library and Recreation Center, the festival invites dogs and their owners for snacks, competitions, and adoption opportunities, all free of any cost.
