Voters in Georgia may want to mark their calendars as election officials gear up for an important electoral process—the computation and canvassing of ballots for the July 15 Special Primary Public Service Commission Runoff is set to begin promptly. As reported on the Athens-Clarke County Government website, the counting will kick off on Tuesday, July 15, at 7:30 PM in the Facilities and Landscape Training Room, located at 2555 Lexington Road in Athens.
The counting procedure isn't just a matter of tallying votes, it's a meticulous process of ensuring every voice is heard—provisional ballots will be reconciled as per the mandates of sections 21-2-418 and 21-2-419 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated (O.C.G.A.), alongside absentee ballots that must be included in the final vote tally according to O.C.G.A. section 21-2-386 subparagraph (a)(1)(G) officials aim to guarantee a complete and fair count. Following the commencement, the count will resume the next day at 10:00 AM at the Elections Department, situated at 155 East Washington Street, and it will persist until the last vote has been duly accounted for.
Transparency is key in the electoral process, and as such, the public has been invited to observe this critical facet of democracy in action—the computation and canvassing process is open for any member of the community wishing to witness the integrity of their electoral system first-hand.
