Atlanta Mourns the Loss of Trailblazing Legal Titan and Civic Leader Thomas G. Sampson Sr.

The city of Atlanta is in mourning following the death of Thomas G. Sampson Sr., as Mayor Andre Dickens announced the passing of the esteemed co-founder of Thomas Kennedy Sampson & Tompkins LLP, Georgia's oldest Black-owned law firm. In a statement reported by the City of Atlanta's official website, Dickens hailed Sampson as a legal titan and a passionate advocate for civil rights who dedicated his career to mentoring up-and-coming Black attorneys and fighting for justice.

During his more than fifty-year tenure, Sampson not only excelled in the legal arena but also made his mark on the community through civic engagement and opening opportunities for people of color; he was committed to these causes, tirelessly working to build what Mayor Dickens described as a legacy of leadership, integrity, and historical significance all while championing equity and inclusion.

Thomas Sampson's influence spread far beyond the courtroom and was deeply felt in the hearts of Atlanta's residents.
