The memorial event, as has become tradition, featured a procession that passed the Century 16 Theatre at 12:37 AM on July 20th, culminating at the 7/20 Memorial Garden. "Each year, at 12:37 AM on July 20th, the Aurora Police Department leads a procession past the Century 16 Theatre and over to the 7/20 Memorial Garden," as per Aurora Police Department. Participants of the event laid flowers at the 12 crosses in the garden, each a silent testament to the stories abruptly ended on that fateful night.
The tribute extended beyond the victims to include an acknowledgment of the first responders' brave actions. "It was also a time to honor our extraordinary men and women of the department who answered the call that night and responded with heroism," the Aurora Police Department expressed.
