In an effort to clamp down on retail theft, the Bensalem Township Police Department has taken an aggressive stance by launching a new initiative called Bensalem Secure, which they hope will turn the tide in local retail theft. In partnership with the Bensalem Township Economic Development Corporation and local business owners, the initiative uses a multi-step approach that includes better security and publicly naming those arrested for retail theft.
According to a social media post by the department, this hardline policy has zero tolerance for such offences and pledges to arrest anyone caught or identified in the act of committing these crimes. In their announcement, Bensalem Police stated, "We will post a list of people arrested for Retail Theft and related charges in Bensalem Township each week."
This public naming and shaming comes with the legal disclaimer that all persons on the published list are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, as stated in the Bensalem Police social media post.
