Community engagement took a playful turn in West Roxbury's Lyndon School campus, as officers from the Boston Police Department's District E-5 and the Bureau of Community Engagement dropped by the YMCA Summer Camp. The official BPD blog details how the visit featured a show-and-tell with BPD cruisers and a safety talk, hoping to forge closer ties with young campers.
The day wasn't all lights and sirens, through; the campers were also introduced to Copper: the BPD Comfort Dog, who seems to have a knack for stealing hearts. The department's community outreach efforts often include the four-legged officer, underscoring the gentler aspects of policing, a gesture that holds weight in an era where the relationship between law enforcement and civilians is subjected to intense scrutiny.
In a statement published on the BPD news blog, the department described the event as "a great visit" and showcased a collection of photos that captured the officers in candid moments with the kids. The informal setting was intended to bolster trust and comfort within the community, particularly amongst the youth.
