Heads up, Boulder County residents and visitors: Boulder County Public Works has announced that 4th of July Road will be on lockdown for maintenance next week. Specifically, the stretch between the Hessie and Fourth of July trailheads will be completely inaccessible from the early hours of July 28 to the end of the workday on July 29. While access to the popular Hessie Trailhead remains open, those hoping to hike the trails might face some delays, especially when Public Works is hogging the area with its heavy machinery, according to Boulder County. The hard closure at the gate west of the Hessie Trailhead has been highlighted on a map of the construction area provided.
Now, don't plan on trying to sneak around this closure. The county has made it clear that no cars, bikes, or even pedestrians will be able to get through. It seems like Public Works has to really move in with some big guns to take care of the gravel road's surface and drainage issues. They're rolling in with large equipment that could pose a risk to anyone trying to bypass the barricades. Andrew Barth, from Public Works Communications, relayed the information, ensuring that safety and efficiency are top priorities for this maintenance work. For those wanting more info or who might have queries, Andrew's your point of contact at [email protected] or via a call at 303-441-1032.
The closure will begin early, at 6:30 a.m. on Monday, July 28, and will stretch all the way to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, July 29. That's two whole days where we'll all have to remember to quickly make alternative plans, whether that means finding a different trailhead or just avoiding the area altogether.
