
Broadacres Marketplace in North Las Vegas will reopen on Friday after closing on June 21. The shutdown followed Immigration and Customs Enforcement and FBI raids at the Santa Fe Springs Swap Meet, which is owned by the same parent company, Newport Diversified Inc. Officials said the closure was a precaution against possible immigration enforcement actions. In a statement, the marketplace said, “We are heartbroken to announce this temporary closure, but we cannot in good conscience continue operations while our vendors, customers, and community members are under threat,” according to News 3 Lv.
After weeks of uncertainty following the sudden shutdown of Broadacres Marketplace, vendors are preparing for its reopening. "We had high hopes, we came with a lot of enthusiasm to know what we could expect but now I’m leaving frustrated," vendor De La Luz Lopez told FOX5 Vegas during the closure. The Nevada Immigration Coalition noted the marketplace’s role in Las Vegas’s economic and social life. A press release stated, "The reopening marks an important moment of continuity for the thousands of families, vendors, and visitors who rely on and support this beloved marketplace," with plans to include kids’ attractions and a food fair starting at 4 p.m. on reopening day.
