An unhoused man in his 40s was found shot to death in a commercial parking lot on the 1200 block of South Eastern Avenue on Tuesday afternoon, and Las Vegas police say they have no suspect in custody. Officers were notified about the incident around 1:46 p.m. near the intersection with Charleston Boulevard, and responding units found the man unresponsive with a fatal gunshot wound.
Police were dispatched to the scene shortly before 2 p.m. after emergency calls reported gunfire, according to KSNV News 3. Lt. Robert Price of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department confirmed during a press briefing Tuesday that homicide detectives had taken over the investigation once the visible signs of fatal trauma were identified, as reported by the Las Vegas Review-Journal. As of Tuesday evening, investigators had not released the victim's identity, a suspect description, or a possible motive, and it remains unclear whether surveillance cameras from nearby businesses captured the shooting. The man's unhoused status underscores a vulnerability that has surfaced in other East Las Vegas cases; the Review-Journal's account of a December 2022 killing near a homeless encampment in the same part of the city noted that violence against unhoused residents remains an ongoing public safety concern in Clark County.
A Corridor With a Troubled Recent History
Tuesday's shooting is not the first fatal case on this stretch of Eastern Avenue this year. In July, 41-year-old Lucy Robledo was found shot to death on a sidewalk in the 1200 block of North Eastern Avenue, a case that led to the arrest of suspect Oscar Perez on an open murder charge after he was rebooked in August, per the Review-Journal's reporting.
Just blocks away, a man suffered gunshot wounds to the chest near East Charleston Boulevard and Pecos Road on July 31, an incident that briefly shut down traffic lanes along the busy east-west corridor, as Hoodline reported at the time. Charleston Boulevard has also drawn scrutiny this year on its western end, where Hoodline previously covered the 11th officer-involved shooting of 2026.
Citywide Numbers Tell a Mixed Story
The pattern of violence along Eastern Avenue and Charleston Boulevard stands in contrast to broader departmental trends. LVMPD reported that homicides across its jurisdiction dropped 22% in 2025 compared to the prior year, and the department reached a homicide clearance rate of roughly 98%, according to the Review-Journal's February reporting.
Yet crime data analyzed by KSNV News 3 in late 2025 showed the Downtown Area Command, which borders the East Valley Charleston/Eastern corridor, led all 10 Metro area commands in homicides that year with 14 reported deaths. LVMPD's use-of-force report, released in July, also noted that officers responded to roughly 1.4 million service events departmentwide in 2025, logging 1,019 reportable use-of-force incidents, per the same Review-Journal account.
What Happens if a Suspect Is Identified
Should investigators identify and charge a suspect, Nevada law treats willful, deliberate, and premeditated killings as first-degree murder under NRS 200.030, which carries penalties ranging from life imprisonment with or without the possibility of parole to a 50-year sentence with parole eligibility after 20 years.
