In the Bronx, a man has been indicted following a violent domestic incident that prompted a significant police response. Daniel Ribustello, 34, faces multiple charges, including weapon possession and unlawful imprisonment, after allegedly threatening his mother with a knife. The situation concluded when an NYPD officer shot Ribustello, with no injuries reported to the victim.
According to the indictment released by the Bronx District Attorney's office, Ribustello held a knife to his mother, Carol Ribustello, 61, and threatened to kill her inside their apartment at 1740 Mulford Avenue on May 1. The altercation, which occurred close to 11:30 p.m., escalated to the point where law enforcement was compelled to intervene to prevent harm to the elder Ribustello. As the incident unfolded, an officer discharged their weapon, wounding the assailant, "ending the standoff."
District Attorney Darcel D. Clark detailed the charges against Ribustello in a public statement, which include third-degree and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, first-degree and second-degree unlawful imprisonment, and menacing charges. Justice Darlene Goldberg heard the arraignment, after which Ribustello was remanded into custody, scheduled to return to court on October 29.
Several individuals played key roles in the progression of this case. Assistant District Attorney Christian Commelin is leading the prosecution, with support from Trial Preparation Assistant Brianna Rodriguez. District Attorney Clark recognized the investigative contributions of NYPD Detective John Toto from the Force Investigation Division, Sgt. Louis Meade, and Detective David Golson of the Bronx DA Squad. Appreciation was also extended to the late Ellen Kolodney, former Elder Abuse Coordinator, for her assistance prior to her passing.
