The City and County of Broomfield has made a significant leap in electric vehicle infrastructure, becoming the first in Colorado and the Western U.S. to snag a Silver designation from the national Charging Smart program. This accolade highlights Broomfield's streamlined approach to enhancing EV readiness and setting up the kind of innovative infrastructure policies the rest of the region could look up to.

According to the City and County of Broomfield, the Silver designation from Charging Smart showcases a recognition of best practices nationally for the integration and support of electric vehicles in a community setting. Broomfield’s Sustainability Coordinator, Kirstie Tedrick, expressed pride in the achievement, as per the City and County of Broomfield, stating, "It reflects Broomfield’s ongoing commitment to expanding access to clean transportation and supporting a more sustainable future." Tedrick's comments further emphasize that the designation is the fruit of cross-departmental cooperation and regional partnerships.

The push towards this notable designation involved a multifaceted strategy. Broomfield established concise zoning regulations for EV charger implementations and fashioned a streamlined permitting process for these installations. In addition, the City and County executed a comprehensive analysis of its municipal fleet. Ken Rutt, Water Utilities Director and Acting Public Works Director, told the City and County of Broomfield, “Through thoughtful planning and coordinated action, Broomfield is working to support EV readiness across the region...” CCOB's strategic initiatives align closely with national best practices and serve as a model for other communities.
