The City and County of Broomfield are set to open doors to the community for a critical discussion on the new Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) Map and the 2025 Colorado Wildfire Resiliency Code (CWRC). The meeting, scheduled for Monday, July 21, will take place between 2 and 3 p.m. at the George Di Ciero City and County Building's Council Chambers. Residents interested in understanding the implications of these latest developments regarding wildfire prevention and safety should mark their calendars.

As part of the meeting's agenda, wildfire expert Carolyn Larsen, working with the Colorado State Forest Service and the Department of Public Safety, will address the audience on the "data and methodology" behind the CWRC State Map, which has reached its final form. According to the City and County of Broomfield, Larsen will also detail the new state code and what local jurisdictions can expect from its implementation. There’s an opportunity for Broomfield residents to have their pressing questions answered on the spot.

Following the initial presentation, City of Broomfield personnel will present a strategy for integrating the map's findings with local efforts. Crucial to these efforts is the partnership with a GIS mapping firm, tasked with offering a detailed, real-world assessment of wildfire risk within specific areas. A pilot project in the Wilcox neighborhood, located within an area of higher risk, labelled as the “orange zone,” aims to verify and refine the existing model's results.
