In an era where the digital realm is intricately woven into our lives, the Burleson Police Department in Texas is stepping up to educate parents on the potential dangers lurking within their children's smartphones.
A recent social media post by the department announced an upcoming event aimed at unpacking the hidden challenges of modern technology; the post reads, "PARENTS: Think You Know What’s on Your Kid’s Phone? Think Again," cautioning that a child might be carrying "8.765 billion strangers in their pocket," according to Burleson Police Department. They lay forth a series of points that the session will cover, including dangerous applications, the use of social media by predators, and real instances of sextortion.
Officer Byrom from the Burleson Police Department (BPD) is set to host this free, eye-opening class on Thursday, July 17 at 6:30 PM at the Burleson Recreation Center, the social media post details the topics to be discussed which include "Dangerous apps your kids may be using (yes, even the ones rated ‘4+’), Secret accounts and hidden behavior (Finstas, Vault apps, and more), How predators use social media to reach your child, and Real cases of sextortion and how to stop it before it starts."
This gathering is not merely about instilling fear but fostering a proactive knowledge base to protect families in the digital age, the department insists that the issue at hand is one of being informed, equipped, and vigilant in a landscape rife with digital unknowns, the announcement emphasizes that there should be no room for the complacent belief the class seeks to challenge perceptions such as "my kid would never…" suggesting a collective approach with the catchphrase, "Let’s get smarter — together," a sentiment echoed in the social media post by the Burleson Police Department.
