Cambridge was rocked by a fire in the early hours of Saturday when flames engulfed a four-story residence on Cambridge Street. The blaze, which has left 10 people without a home, started before many in the city were awake, calling local firefighters to action. According to a post on the Cambridge MA Fire Department's official Facebook page, the fire at 1264 Cambridge St. was recognized with a two-alarm alert at 2:59 a.m.
The initial response by the Cambridge Fire Department displayed quick coordination and execution, "Arriving with heavy fire showing from the rear porches (accessed via Prospect St), 1st-due Engine 5 used the pre-connect deck gun to knock down the heavy, overlapping fire, while advancing a 2 1/2" attack line with Squad 3," the Cambridge MA Fire Department detailed. Crews managed to secure water supplies, stretch lines to the interior, search for and evacuate residents, and eventually extinguish the fire, ensuring that everyone was evacuated safely and no injuries were reported. Moreover, the Somerville Fire Department contributed to the firefighting efforts as part of their line box response.
Meanwhile, reporting from another angle, WHDH news shared that ladder trucks were instrumental in bringing the blaze under control. The teamwork and efficiency of the firefighters helped prevent potential casualties in what could have been a more devastating event.
The cause of the fire is currently unknown, and an investigation is underway. Although the fire caused significant material damage, there were no injuries, thanks to the quick response from the local fire department and assistance from neighboring services. Further details are expected as the investigation continues. Meanwhile, displaced residents are beginning to recover from the incident.
