The fast-casual Mediterranean dining scene in Michigan just got a new contender as CAVA opened its doors in Canton. Located at 43450 Ford Road, this marks the first venture of the expanding chain into the state. The nearly 4,000-square-foot establishment started welcoming customers on July 20, promising a diverse range of customizable bowls, pitas, and specialty dips, according to ClickOnDetroit.
In a gesture that marries community involvement with its launch, CAVA's new location made a splash with a unique community day experience on Saturday, July 19. They offered complimentary meals and encouraged donations to Gleaners Food Bank of Southeast Michigan, matching up to $1,000. As reported by the Detroit Free Press, CAVA's community days have been a significant part of their brand ethos, with past events raising more than $600,000 since 2019 for hunger relief efforts.
CAVA distinguishes itself with a myriad of options totaling "over 17 billion combinations", as patrons mix and match among 38 ingredients across bowls, pitas, chips, and dips. "We’re thrilled to join the Southeast Michigan community and introduce more guests to the bold, vibrant flavors of the Mediterranean," Gino Carlin, regional leader at CAVA, told Hometown Life. The chain now operates in 28 states, with the ambition of reaching a thousand locations by 2032.
Beyond just flavor, CAVA has set its eyes on further expansion within Michigan later this year, but has not disclosed exact locations. The brand is no stranger to growth, starting from its 2010 launch by Ike Grigoropoulos, Dimitri Moshovitis, and Ted Xenohristos — children of Greek immigrants, alongside co-founder Brett Schulman. They sought to make Mediterranean cuisine accessible and on a fast-casual platform. Their signature dishes, from spicy lamb meatballs to their renowned crazy feta dip, pay homage to their cultural heritage and family traditions, as shared in a statement obtained by the Detroit Free Press.
