A 51-year-old Centerline man has been charged with first degree murder in connection with a shooting that took place at the Extended Stay America hotel in Sterling Heights, officials say. The incident, which unfolded on February 1, 2025, resulted in the death of 24-year-old Jajuan Marls. After the alleged act, the suspect, Luke Svacha, retreated to his Centerline home where he remained until law enforcement coaxed him into surrendering.
Following his eventual arrest, Svacha faced multiple charges, including Premeditated Murder, Felony Firearm, Carrying a Concealed Weapon, and Assaulting/Resisting/Obstructing an Police Officer. However, during a preliminary examination, only the latter charge was dropped due to insufficient evidence, as per a statement from the 41A District Court in Sterling Heights. The Macomb County Prosecutor's Office announced that the other charges were upheld and Svacha will next appear for arraignment on August 4, 2025, before Macomb County Circuit Court Judge Anthony R. Servitto.
Prosecutor Peter J. Lucido highlighted the ongoing efforts of the judicial process, stating, “Our priority is pursuing justice for the victim and protecting the safety of Macomb County. We will continue to move forward with this case to ensure accountability under the law,” as reported by the Macomb County Prosecutor's Office. Svacha currently remains in custody at the Macomb County Jail as he awaits further legal proceedings.
