The National Weather Service in Charlotte, NC, has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook that predicts scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms for the area, with a potential for isolated severe storms. According to the National Weather Service latest report, the primary concern with these storms is the possibility of damaging wind gusts and the threat of locally heavy rainfall that could lead to isolated flooding. The outlook applies to various parts of northeast Georgia, the Piedmont regions of North Carolina, western North Carolina, and Upstate South Carolina.
Charlotte residents face heat indexes soaring between 100 and 105 degrees this afternoon in the Piedmont and foothills, a trend that's set to continue into the weekend. The NWS cautions those in northeast Georgia and the southern areas of North Carolina to prepare for similar conditions on Friday afternoon.
The forecast, which has remained consistent since early this morning, shows a fairly high chance of precipitation throughout the week. There's a notable 60% likelihood of showers and thunderstorms later today, mainly from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., with new rainfall amounts expected to be less than a tenth of an inch. However, areas caught in thunderstorms might experience higher totals.
As night falls on the region, the chance of showers and thunderstorms drops to 30%, mainly before 9 p.m. Residents can expect partly cloudy skies with lows hovering around 75 degrees. New precipitation could range between a tenth and a quarter of an inch, "except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms," the NWS noted. Looking ahead, Friday anticipates a recurrence of showers and thunderstorms in the afternoon, with the chance of precipitation persisting at 60% and the potential for isolated flash flooding in urban areas.
The relative calm of weather on Sunday, with partly sunny skies and highs near 81, will offer a brief reprieve from the prior days' tempests. This pattern of partly cloudy nights and mostly sunny days is forecasted to continue into early next week, with periodic chances of showers between 10 p.m. and 3 a.m. on Monday night and a consistent 30 percent likelihood of showers and thunderstorms on Tuesday.
In light of these forecasts, residents are advised to remain aware of weather conditions and take precautionary measures, especially during periods of high temperatures and when severe weather warnings are in effect.
