As Charlotteans celebrated Independence Day with a flourish of fireworks in Uptown, it was the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD) that ensured the night passed without major incident, their strategic operations plan evidently hitting its mark amidst the cascades of color and collective cheer.
Despite the size of the crowd that gathered for SkyShow 2025 yesterday, there were only three arrests in total, this according to a statement from CMPD, and while officers seized three firearms and some drugs the sum of what they encountered paints a rather tame picture compared to what such celebrations have, in years past, drawn out onto the street.
The adult suspects now facing charges include Emanual Akins, 29, charged with Carrying a Concealed Weapon while additional information on his case can be found in the report numbered 20250703-1936-01, alongside Damarri Bland, 20, and Jordan McPhatter, 23—the former charged with the same offense plus Possession of Marijuana, and the latter charged with Possession with Intent to Sell/Distribute Marijuana and Resist/Delay/Obstruct, more details on these cases are outlined in report 20250703-2214-01.
Notably, no juveniles found themselves wrapped up in this night's enforcement actions; indeed, the items seized by officers—an assortment which included approximately 14.4 grams of suspected marijuana, some items of drug paraphernalia, and around $5,000 in U.S. currency.
