In a coordinated move that underscores the ongoing battle against drug trafficking in our neighborhoods, Chelsea Police, supported by Revere Police Drug Unit members, carried out a search that took not only drugs and money but also illegal weapons off the streets. The Chelsea Police Department announced on their Facebook page that on Friday, July 25, their Drug Unit executed a warrant at 68 Orange Street, with the precise aim of clamping down on a narcotics probe that led them to 27-year-old Jordy Ramos Romero.
During the search of Romero's residence, police found a cache of approximately 68 grams of crack cocaine, an unlawful firearm, and about $9,600 in cash believed to be the proceeds of drug trafficking, in what has been a boon for the local law enforcement agencies, seeking to affirm their resolve in quelling the surge in drug-linked violence within the community. As a consequence of these findings, Romero was taken into custody without incident, his future now entangled with the wheels of the justice system, he is expected to face the court's disposition on charges encompassing both drug trafficking and the unlawful possession of a firearm; his arraignment is set for Monday at the Chelsea District Court.
Chief Keith E. Houghton heaped praise onto the shoulders of the officers involved saying, "This case highlights the importance of regional partnerships in targeting individuals who bring dangerous drugs and illegal firearms into our neighborhoods," underscoring the significance of inter-agency collaboration in tackling such pervasive community issues.
