The Licking County Board of Commissioners is setting the stage for a new chapter, as Christel Hamper steps into the role of Clerk to the Board starting August 1. Hamper, whose tenure with the office began in 2017, has worked her way up from Administrative Assistant to Deputy Clerk and, more recently, interim Clerk following the retirement of the former Clerk/Administrator Bev Adzic in December 2024.
In her statement, Hamper expressed gratitude for her predecessors and enthusiasm for future endeavors, "I am honored to be appointed as Clerk to the Board," she told Licking County's news release. "Having worked with the Commissioners for the past seven and a half years, I look forward to continuing to serve Licking County in this new capacity. I’m grateful for the mentorship of Bev Adzic and David Edelblute and excited for what lies ahead."
Hamper's appointment is not just a nod to continuity within the Commissioners' Office, but also an acknowledgment of the strides she's made in modernizing processes. Among her contributions, she's implemented a resolution management software that dramatically cut down on paper usage, marking a notable step towards a more sustainable office workflow.
Her background is as diverse as it is impressive. Before her Licking County journey, Hamper cultivated a robust career in the medical field in Marion, Ohio. She shifted from giving hands-on care as a State Tested Nurse Aide to supporting clinical teams as a surgical scrub technician, in labor and delivery, before ultimately channeling her skill into medical coding and billing as a specialist. During this time, she was instrumental in launching a patient portal that bolstered communication between patients and healthcare providers.
Away from her professional contributions, Hamper maintains a vigorous presence within her community. Her free time finds her exploring the nooks of Licking County, and she holds the position of Secretary on the Licking County Senior Levy Advisory Board. Plus, her past board service includes the Licking County Spay/Neuter Foundation, underscoring her dedication to engagement and public service in her locality.
