As the nation preps for fireworks and family barbecues, Governor Jared Polis isn't holding back on the patriotic spirit. With the 4th of July just around the corner, he's getting ahead of the festivities, hailing the near quarter-millennium mark since America's shackles from monarchy and tyranny were cast aside. As obtained by the Colorado Governor's Office, Polis voices his excitement: "I am thrilled that next year the United States of America will be celebrating our 250th birthday at the same time Colorado is celebrating our 150th." And as everyone looks forward to the rockets' red glare on the eve of our independence, the Governor reminds Coloradans to play it safe with legal fireworks and to take the necessary safety precautions.
Colorado is buzzing with anticipation for both dual birthday celebrations in 2026, that golden 250th for the nation and a respectable 150th for the state. Governor Polis has made it official, signing off on legislation to form the 150/250 Commission, dedicated to rallying state-wide celebrations fit for this double milestone. On the eve of this year's Independence Day, Denver Metro Residents are in for a treat, expected to gaze skyward at Indy Eve in Civic Center Park, where 300 drones instead of traditional fireworks will light up the night sky. The event details, including a spectacular drone show, are available directly through the Governor's announcement.
Moving beyond backyard grills and the sizzle of sparklers, Polis hopes to stitch a tapestry of freedom and celebration that spans both time and territory. "This 249th birthday is a celebration of freedom, independence, and the break from kings and tyranny," Polis remarked, as per the Colorado Governor's Office. Asserting Colorado's continued stance against those who would try stripping freedoms away, he extends his wishes for a "happy, safe, and free 4th of July" to all residents.
