Passenger traffic at Colorado Springs Airport (COS) is experiencing a slight uptick, with June 2025 seeing a 0.3 percent increase compared to the same month in the previous year. As reported by the City of Colorado Springs, the airport welcomed 235,642 travelers through its doors. Adding to the good news, seat availability grew by 5.5 percent, a change attributed to airlines upgrading their aircraft to offer more capacity.
Despite increased seat numbers, the load factor slid to 81.1 percent, which marks a drop of 4.1 percent from last year. The month of June hasn't just been about incremental growth in passenger numbers; it's also when COS set a new daily record. A whopping 4,935 travelers passed through the TSA security checkpoint on June 30, a peak in daily traffic that hadn't been seen since records began back in 2018.
Air travel options out of COS are expanding as well. Southwest Airlines has launched seasonal service to Cancun, which will run through early August and resume for select dates in the fall and winter. Additionally, year-round service to San Diego is set to kick off on October 2. Not to be outdone, American Airlines introduced daily flights to Chicago O'Hare this June, and travelers can expect daily nonstop service from other major airlines like Delta Air Lines and United Airlines to key destinations across the United States.
Enhancements to the COS terminal continue with renovations that recently reopened Gates 5 and 7. As the airport forges ahead with the ElevateCOS upgrade initiative, travelers will see Gates 1 and 3 reopened in time for the Thanksgiving holiday rush. Despite a temporary closure of Evolve by Hudson for refurbishments, a pop-up retail location is servicing travelers between Gates 7 and 9, ensuring that the options for shopping and dining, including spots like Mountain View Food Court and Atrevida Beer Company, remain ample for all passing through.
