In a sustained effort to staunch the rampant recklessness of motorcycle riders on Colorado's roadways, the Colorado State Patrol, or CSP, partnered with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office over the Independence Day weekend for an enforcement crackdown. According to 9NEWS, the operation deployed CSP's Aircraft Unit to decisively track a motorcyclist barreling through traffic at 120 mph, along with stopping numerous others deemed "reckless riders."

In the wake of a tumultuous June that witnessed 11 motorcycle fatalities and 43 injuries statewide, the targeted operation successfully made contact with 45 vehicles, of which 25 were motorcycles. The Denver Post reports that 11 drivers, impatient to disregard safety, were cited for exceeding the speed limit by 20 mph or more. The rigorous enforcement also brought to light that 13 out of the 45 vehicles flagrantly ventured onto the roads without license plates, three of whom were stopped for reckless driving.

It is not just the raw data of citations and stops that make this operation noteworthy, but also the capture of a motorcyclist actively eluding law enforcement at perilous speeds. The evasion resulted in one motorcycle rider being apprehended for felony eluding, though their identity remains under wraps pending further investigation, as per CBS News Colorado.
