In a recent court case that has shaken the Columbus community, 24-year-old Devon Blair has been sentenced to a substantial prison term for the death of his 19-year-old pregnant girlfriend, Brooke Devinney, and their unborn child in 2024. According to FOX28, Blair pleaded guilty to one count of strangulation and two counts each of involuntary manslaughter and felonious assault. He has been handed a sentence ranging from 46 to 51.5 years.
Details emerged that on June 16, 2024, a text-to-911 message alerted authorities to a domestic violence incident at a home on Parkwick Drive, where Blair was reportedly assaulting Devinney. As officers arrived, Blair attempted to flee the scene, leading to a brief police pursuit that resulted in his capture outside a vacant residence. Blair had previously been involved in a domestic violence case, which contributed an additional two years to his sentence for assaulting Franklin County Sheriff’s deputies, WBNS reports.
Brooke Devinney was found with severe injuries from a physical assault and was taken to Grant Medical Center, where she later died, alongside her unborn baby. The case, which concluded with Blair's guilty plea on July 22nd, 2025, has been noted for its tragic nature and the young ages of all involved, including the unborn child. This guilty plea resulted in Blair's original murder charge being dropped in exchange for his admission to the other charges.
The sentencing reflects the gravity of the crimes and the loss of two lives. "He faces at least 46 years in prison and a maximum of 51 and a half years for the five charges," according to court records cited by NBC4i. The community continues to grapple with the consequences of domestic violence and the irreversible harm it has inflicted on a family already preparing to welcome a new life.
