Heads up, commuters: if you're planning to hit I-35 this week, you might want to look out for some serious slowdowns. According to the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT), there's a swath of resurfacing work happening that's going to shut down lanes and ramps left and right. Beginning tonight, July 7th, from 7 p.m until 6 a.m. the following morning, drivers should brace for double lane closures on northbound I-35 stretching from the Southwest Trafficway all the way to the I-670 interchange.

But the inconvenience doesn't stop there. To make sure the resurfacing can proceed unimpeded, several ramps will also be temporarily out of action. Specifically, we're talking the Southwest Trafficway to NB I-35, Broadway Blvd to NB I-35, and the NB I-35 exits to WB I-670, EB I-670, and Broadway Blvd. These closures are set to specifically disrupt the flow of traffic, but are necessary to quickly and safely conduct the resurfacing.

It's not just the northbound lanes taking a hit either. Southbound I-35 is also getting some attention from MoDOT. From July 7th to July 10th, during the same nightly hours, double lane closures will affect the stretch from the I-670 interchange down to the Southwest Trafficway. The domino effect continues with more ramp closures—in particular, Broadway Blvd to SB I-35, WB I-670 to SB I-35, and the SB I-35 exits to Southwest Trafficway and Broadway Blvd are going to be off-limits.

If you find yourself behind the wheel in these parts during the specified times, remember to not only slow down, but also, to pay close attention while navigating through the work zones. Not every construction zone is going to look the same; some are there for long-term projects, while others might just pop up to allow crews to quickly fix up a pothole or two, or clear out debris.
