The Concord Police Department has recently expanded its ranks, according to an official post from the city's website. In a ceremony that took place on Tuesday at City Hall, 16 new officers were sworn in, and two seasoned officers found themselves climbing the ranks to Sergeant. This batch of recruits has already made its mark by all completing their Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) as a united group, a strong start for their careers.
Among the new officers, there are veterans and active members of the military, including two from the Army National Guard and two others who served in different branches of the U.S. Armed Forces. With their induction, the Concord Police force has infused a strong sense of camaraderie and leadership within its ranks. Having the entire class pass the BLET is indeed an exceptional achievement, as noted by Police Chief Jimmy Hughes during the ceremony. In a statement obtained by Concord's official news service, Hughes remarked, "The way you carried yourself, being nearly half the class is I think the reason that 33 out of 33 graduated BLET."
Representatives from the police department stressed the importance of maintaining the bonds formed during training into their subsequent careers. "There’s going to be up days and there’s going to be down days, and when you have those down days reach out to each other, look to each other and take care of each other, and continue that throughout your careers," Chief Hughes said according to the city's post. His words acknowledged the inevitability of challenges ahead, but also the power of unity and mutual support.
Two Master Police Officers, Jazmine Missouri and Tracy Cruz, have been recognized for their service and leadership qualities with promotions to Sergeant. Sergeant Missouri brings her extensive experience from Greensboro Police Department and within Concord's patrol bureau, along with her contributions to youth mentoring programs and SWAT team engagement. She is currently enhancing her academic credentials at Liberty University. On the other hand, having worked across all districts in the city and in the mobile field force, Sergeant Cruz has consistently demonstrated his role as a dependable team player, earning respect for his willingness to assist fellow officers. Paired with his ERV driving responsibilities, his track record is both diverse and steadfast. Cruz is also furthering his education at Liberty University and enjoys a supportive family life with his wife and two children.
