A contract employee died following a workplace accident at the LG Energy Solution plant in Holland, officials confirmed. The incident, which occurred last Sunday evening, resulted in the death of Kim Jung Won, a South Korean national. Found by first responders partially stuck in a machine at the battery manufacturing facility located at 875 E. 48th St., Won's severe injuries were immediately apparent. "Due to the injuries, the victim was clearly deceased," Holland police said in a statement obtained by News 8.

Responding to the call shortly after 5 p.m., the Holland Department of Public Safety noted that no lifesaving attempts were made at the scene. Won was an employee for LG PRI, a vendor involved with the automation of machinery at the LG Energy Solutions facility. The Michigan Occupational Safety and Health Administration (MIOSHA) is actively investigating the accident, and as noted by local authorities, no foul play is suspected, as reported by FOX17online.

LG Energy Solution, a key player in the electric vehicle battery manufacturing industry, confirmed the suspension of new equipment setup on that section of the line until safety is reassured. "Safety remains our highest priority, and new equipment set-up on that section of the line has been suspended immediately until safety is ensured," a company spokesperson, Philip Lienert, mentioned in an email to News 8. LG Energy Solution expressed their condolences, as Lienert wrote, "We express our deepest condolences to the contractor’s family, friends and colleagues."
