A Cudahy man has been charged with multiple offenses following a tense police standoff over the holiday weekend. Jason Rohloff, 45, faces a felony count of intentionally pointing a firearm at law enforcement, alongside a misdemeanor for operating a firearm while intoxicated. If convicted, Rohloff could be looking at nearly seven years in prison and up to a $20,000 fine, as reported by TMJ4.
The situation began around 10 p.m. last Saturday when a neighbor reported property damage and disruptive behavior to the police. According to the criminal complaint, Rohloff had been hosting a party and became intoxicated. The complaint details that he was outside his home on South Crosswinds Drive and East Henry Avenue, near Cudahy Park, when police arrived and that Rohloff pointed a gun at the responding officers. In response, officer Ian Bushner fired five shots, causing Rohloff to retreat into his house, WTMJ notes.
A "shelter in place" order was issued to the neighborhood, and blocks surrounding the scene were cordoned off as a safety precaution. The standoff involved five local police departments and spanned roughly three hours. It ended peacefully around 1 a.m. on Sunday, when negotiators successfully convinced Rohloff to surrender. Thankfully, no injuries were reported from the incident. The order was lifted approximately 45 minutes after the arrest, WISN reports.
Rohloff admitted to investigators that he is a brewer and he had been drinking his home brew since 3 p.m. the day of the incident. He initially responded to police with confusion over their presence and denied firing any shots. Two firearms were subsequently recovered from Rohloff's residence. As the suspect remains in Milwaukee County Jail, criminal charges are being referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office for further action.
