Rodney Baggott, 58, from the District of Columbia, was convicted on multiple charges, including first-degree murder while armed and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon. The charges are connected to a 2024 road rage incident that led to the death of Uber Eats driver Rasheek Abdullah near Dupont Circle, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Baggott was found guilty on Thursday after one day of jury deliberation. Sentencing is set for December 18. Court records state Baggott shot Abdullah in the neck after a traffic incident and left the scene with his girlfriend. He was arrested on March 2, 2024, during a traffic stop involving a white Mitsubishi Outlander connected to the shooting. DNA evidence linked Baggott to firearms found in his girlfriend’s apartment. The investigation involved the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, FBI, Metropolitan Police Department, and Montgomery County Police, as reported by the U.S. Attorney's Office.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Metropolitan Police Department investigated a case that led to the arrest and conviction of Baggott. Assistant U.S. Attorneys Cameron Tepfer and Daniel Seidel handled the prosecution, with earlier help from former Assistant U.S. Attorney Ryan Lipes. Baggott’s girlfriend called an auto body shop about damage to a Mitsubishi, which matched a police bulletin and helped lead to the arrest. The conviction was announced by U.S. Attorney Pirro, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Special Agent in Charge Anthony Spotswood, and Metropolitan Police Department Chief Pamela A. Smith, as stated by the U.S. Attorney's Office.
